Heading east out of Roswell on East 2nd Street you will see the Red Barn RV Park. The unmistakable red barn lets you know you’re in the right place.
The park is relatively small but will happily accommodate large rigs. There are lots of trees dotted about the site that create plenty of shade, the trees are also full of birds happily chirping away. The park backs onto farmland so the views and sunsets can be stunning. Lee, the owner of the park, is extremely pleasant and will go out of her way to make sure you have everything you need for the duration of your stay.
Lee takes great pride in the park and everything is very clean and well maintained. There are laundry facilities and bathrooms, the wifi is also very good. The small store stocks ice, snacks and ice cream.
The Red Barn RV Park is a friendly, quiet little park only a few minutes from the town centre and everything Roswell has to offer.

Head east again along East 2nd Street and then take the 409 to the Bottomless Lakes State Park, this is where you find the Bottomless Lakes State Park Campground.
About 20 minutes from Roswell, this Rv park sits on the shores of Lake Lea, one of the Bottomless Lakes. The RV sites are large and about 6 have full hook ups. The bathroom facilities are basic but well maintained.
There is a dedicated swimming beach where you can hire a peddle boat or paddle board and cool off on one of those many hot summer days. The area has some really good hiking trails where you will find some fantastic views over the lakes and canyon.
The park rangers are very helpful and will help you out or offer advice on anything you might need. The park does have wifi but at the time of writing it’s not going to win any speed tests.
Overall, Bottomless Lakes Campground is an inexpensive, very quiet and peaceful place to stay, not too far from Roswell town.

Trailer Village RV Park
Address: 1706 E 2nd St, Roswell, NM 88201, United States
Tel: +1 575 623 6040
Located on East 2nd Street on the approach into Roswell is Trailer Village RV Park. You’ll see the green aliens from the road outside the office. (It’ll make sense when you see it).
Trailer Village RV Park is owned and run by Jon and Morgan who take great pride in their RV park. The park has a good number of sites, all on hard standing. The sites are very spacious, all with full hook-ups and a picnic table. Some of the plots are pull through which is ideal for bigger rigs. All the facilities – bathrooms, showers and laundry are immaculate and well maintained. You can fill up on propane should you need to and there’s also a dog park. There are plenty of trees on site if you are looking for a shady spot. There is a fab little store on site which as well as stocking most things you would need also doubles as a gift shop, it’s a great little place and rivals any gift shop in town.
If you are looking for somewhere close to town with great facilities, Trailer Village is a good choice.
Lake Van RV Park
Address: 5JVR+Q3 Dexter, New Mexico, USA
Tel: +1 575 734 5482
If you don’t want to be in town, Lake Van RV Park is about 20 minutes drive south of Roswell. The RV park is set on the shores of Lake Van, one of the largest lakes in New Mexico.
There are quite a few plots to choose from but only a couple will accommodate larger rigs. All plots have full electric and sewer hook-up. There are plenty of trees and green space, so there is always some shade to be found. The facilities at the park are quite basic but they are well maintained and clean. There is plenty to do here, if fishing is your thing there are common carp, rainbow trout and catfish to be caught. If you’re not up for cooking there is a good restaurant right next to the park.
Lake Van RV Park is a great choice if you want natural surroundings only a short drive from Roswell.

The plots are all hard standing and all are supplied with electric and sewer hook-ups. The bathrooms are extremely clean and the laundry facilities are especially nice. Coming in on the western side of Roswell on West Second Street you will find Wild Willy’s RV Park.
William, the owner is known for being very friendly and easy going. Many people have turned up at Wild Willy’s after finding everywhere is booked or full, and found a spot here. The plots are large with plenty of space between and William has recently been on a planting spree, so in the near future there will be pine trees between some plots. All plots have full electric and sewer hook-up. The bathrooms are very clean and well maintained and have just been upgraded.
If you’re struggling to find anywhere to stay in Roswell, be sure to give Wild Willy’s RV Park a call, they will do their best to help you out.
Mescalero Sands North Dune (BLM Land)
Address: Roswell, NM 88203, United States
Tel: n/a
Heading east, roughly 30 miles out of Roswell on the 380 towards Caprock, you will come across the Mescalero Sands North Dune recreation area.
This area is under the control of the BLM (Bureau Of Land Management). The federal government allows camping at designated areas under their control, and Mescalero Sands is one of them. You can find out more on BLM camping here.
You will need a permit, to get one you can call the local BLM field office: +1 575 627 0272.
Access is via a washboard road but the short duration is worth the destination. There are lots of hard packed areas for RV’s, but definitely check out potential plots on foot beforehand as the sand in places is too deep for heavy vehicles. There is very little in the way of facilities except for a few clean toilets. Be sure to bring plenty of water as there is no running water here.
The views here are stunning and it’s a cool place to stay just 20 minutes drive from Roswell.
At time of writing, according to this article in the Roswell Daily Record, construction of another RV park is under way on West Second Street in Roswell.
I’ll update this page when the RV park is open for business.
